The Advisory Team

We partner collaboratively with clients to build, expand, and secure their companies, products, and capabilities. We assess market opportunities to develop offerings at the outset, facilitate partnerships, and assess risks as things scale—all while providing ongoing confidence that everything will be compliant from beginning to end. Our team understands intimately how to effectively develop, scale, and comply because we have helped clients do so time and again.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for performing a range of senior advisory duties related to FS Vector’s financial services clients’ needs.
  • Advise multiple and varied clients within the financial services ecosystem (e.g., financial technology firms, regulatory technology companies, banks and other financial institutions, regulators, and investors) to assist in the development of financial services products and their regulatory and risk management programs.
  • Review, research, and advise clients on applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and supervisory expectations as they apply to clients’ products and services and risk management programs.
  • Assist in the development of innovative financial services and financial technology products through merging client ideas with existing and evolving U.S. federal and state regulatory regimes related to banking and digital assets, including embedded finance and financial technology partner banking (e.g., banking-as-a-service).
  • Develop and operationalize clients’ compliance and risk management programs, such as drafting compliance policies and procedures, conducting risk assessments across a range of financial service related disciplines (e.g., operational, credit, liquidity, information security, financial crime, and compliance), and mapping applicable control functions and controls to the risks and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to FS Vector’s business development efforts through establishing and maintaining professional relationships, fostering referral networks with clients, law firms, and other market players, participating in sales efforts, and scoping and negotiating engagements with existing and prospective clients.
  • Perform financial and operational analysis to evaluate proformance financial product and business performance relative to third party partnerships such as sponsor banks and debit and credit card processors, and feasibility of proposed business models for de novo state and national bank, including national trust bank, charter applications.
  • Understand and participate in technical financial modeling such as rule tuning and calibration of transaction monitoring systems, stress testing financial impacts of various scenarios, and evaluate those produced by others for comprehensiveness, quality, and reliability.
  • Manage complex and long-term retainer relationships with clients, including regular project management, communication with seniormost client executive management and boards of directors, external stakeholders such as outside counsel, and working-level counterparts in compliance, engineering, treasury, and product management, among others. 
  • Prepare deliverables that meet the standards of compliance with supervisory expectation of regulated financial institutions and their partners and that are understandable by a wide range of audience members who might lack deep knowledge of regulation and financial services practice. 
  • Help clients to establish and maintain third-party relationships by making introductions and participating in meetings with banks, investors, regulators, auditors, law firms, regulatory technology providers, and others.
  • Participate in the firm's corporate development and strategic initiatives to enhance the firm’s attractiveness as a desirable place to build a career by developing and creating new service and product offerings, leading internal affinity groups, and contributing to ongoing policy and process enhancements.
  • Lead and client engagement teams of junior and mid-level members of the Advisory Team. Provide management oversight of one or more junior and/or mid-level members of the Advisory Team by performing mentorship, professional development, quarterly and ongoing performance reviews, and participating in career progression and hiring and promotion decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, International Relations, Political Science, or a related field. (will accept equivalent foreign degree). 
  • Eight (8) years of experience practicing regulatory compliance or advising financial services firms in regulatory compliance.
  • Eight (8) years of experience using office software products (e.g., spreadsheets, presentations, word processing).
  • Two (2) years of experience in any combination of proforma analysis, statistical modeling, and/or financial statement preparation.
  • Two (2) years of project management experience, including use of project management tools (e.g., project plans, Gantt charts, and/or status reporting).
  • Four (4) years of experience conducting research and analysis using open source and/or proprietary sources to prepare work products and deliverables, such as laws, rules, and regulations, regulatory agency guidance documents, and corporate filings. Will also accept any suitable combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Salary: $160k – $190k per year
