Careers at FS Vector

At FS Vector, we’re building a team that’s as forward-looking as the products and services we deliver.

Analyst / Associate

FS Vector is a strategic consulting firm working at the intersection of financial services, technology, and government. We serve clients at every stage of growth, from early-stage ventures to global organizations, helping them navigate a rapidly evolving industry and regulatory environment. Our team delivers advisory, government relations, and licensing services, providing clients with a trusted partner for strategic guidance, operational insights, and scalable solutions.

The Licensing Team

At FS Vector, we partner collaboratively with clients to build, expand, and secure their companies, products, and capabilities. Our team understands intimately how to effectively develop, scale, and comply because we have helped clients do so time and again. This role is part of the Licensing team at FS Vector, which works with clients to acquire and maintain state licenses as well as work strategically with clients to grow and scale its regulated businesses and products.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with our licensing clients across the full range of license types we support, including money transmission (fiat and crypto), lending, loan brokering, collections, mortgage, and other state registrations, building knowledge across each area rather than specializing in one.
  • Prepare and compile state license applications and other filings, and support license acquisition and maintenance projects, with the opportunity to take on greater ownership over time.
  • Support senior team members on licensing tasks across the full license lifecycle, from licensing strategy and application preparation through regulator review and approval, ongoing maintenance and renewals, change-of-control filings, and examinations.
  • Manage application documents, client records, and filing deadlines in APPROVED™, FS Vector’s proprietary licensing and examination technology platform, keeping each client’s license portfolio organized, current, and audit-ready.
  • Track informational requests between clients and state and federal regulators, and review and analyze regulatory notifications in and outside of NMLS and other state portals.
  • Prioritize, prepare, and send correspondence to clients, state and federal regulators, and third-party vendors.
  • Help clients with third-party relationships and external stakeholders (regulators, auditors, law firms, surety bond providers, etc.).
  • Assist in developing compliance and risk management programs, such as drafting compliance-related policies and procedures, as well as the implementation of new compliance-related processes.
  • Assist with firm development and other strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare materials for and participate in internal and external client meetings, and report updates to management.
  • This is a primarily in-office role based in our Chicago office in the River North neighborhood.

What we are looking for in a colleague

  • Interest in, or exposure to, the acquisition and maintenance of any of the license types we support (money transmission, lending, brokering, digital asset/crypto, mortgage, etc.), and eagerness to learn across all of them.
  • Experience with or a focused interest in acting as an advisor to innovative financial services companies.
  • Curiosity about non-bank financial services regulations, such as those related to money transmitters, lenders, and/or mortgage companies.
  • Interest in learning best practices applicable to the state licensing process.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance, including financial crimes compliance (AML and sanctions), payments, consumer protection, and lending, is a bonus.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • A proactive and engaged self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to contribute to the growth of our business.
  • Ability to travel occasionally (~10%), primarily to our headquarters in Washington, DC or to clients.

Qualifications

  • 1–4 years of administrative, legal, compliance, regulatory, or similar experience at a consulting firm, law firm, or financial services company; recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Level (Analyst or Associate) will be determined based on experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience.
  • Comfort managing a high volume of client deliverables and filing deadlines at the same time.
  • Eagerness to learn core licensing skills, such as interpreting state regulatory requirements, navigating NMLS, and communicating with regulators. We provide hands-on training and mentorship.
  • Strong organization and project management skills, and excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong desire to build subject-matter expertise in fintech.
  • Comfort learning new technology, and proficiency with PDF software, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint; experience with the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS) and state regulatory portals is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues, clients, and regulators at all levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
