Part Time Finance & Data Analyst Intern, Finance

About The Role:
This is a short-duration, high-visibility engagement with clear and measurable outcomes. You will work directly with our FP&A Principal in our Washington, D.C. office, with exposure to the CFO and practice area leadership. Your work will directly improve the accuracy of financial reporting for a growing fintech consulting firm and lay the groundwork for process automation with your findings presented to finance leadership at the conclusion of the engagement.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Compare and reconcile financial data across our accounting system, published financials, KPI file, and offline sheets maintained at the practice level.
- Apply and standardize contract tags and classifications to enable deeper reporting and analysis at the customer level.
- Produce a master contract registry mapping each contract to its client, product or service offering and practice area.
- Identify and resolve data inconsistencies and flag variances for review.
- Document data clean up decisions and maintain a clear record of changes made.
- Surface patterns or systemic issues in the data that may indicate broader process improvements.
- Collaborate with practice area leads and the accounting team to validate and correct data discrepancies.
- Produce actionable recommendations for process and data improvements to prevent recurrence.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Curiosity about financial operations, data quality and process improvement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage structured, analytical work independently while proactively flagging issues.
- Intermediate proficiency in spreadsheets including formulas, filters, pivot tables and data validation.
- Familiarity with accounting software (Sage, Quickbooks or similar) is a plus but is not required.
- Ability to work on-site in our Washington D.C office approximately 25 hours per week.
